Mention audit
How AIs describe the company today, if at all, and which competitors and sources they cite.
More and more customers ask an AI before they search. GEO is the work of making your company easy to find, understand and cite in those answers. No citation promise, because nobody controls what AI says.
The service
When someone asks ChatGPT which agency to hire or sees an AI Overview on Google, they get a ready-made answer, sometimes with links. GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) and AEO (Answer Engine Optimization) are names for the work of increasing the chance your company is in that answer.
Google Search Central says SEO practices still apply to AI Overviews and AI Mode, with no additional requirements to appear in them. Many AIs consult the web to answer. If the site isn't crawlable, fast and clear, it doesn't enter the conversation. That's why this service is part of full-service SEO.
Traditional SEO aims for a position in the results list. In GEO, the question is different: when AI puts together an answer about your market, does it have clear, consistent and trustworthy information about your company to use? That pulls in three fronts: content that answers directly, a well-defined entity (who the company is, what it does, where it operates) and mentions in sources outside your own site.
In Google's AI Overviews and AI Mode, ChatGPT with search, Gemini, Perplexity and Copilot. Each uses different sources and models, so monitoring looks at more than one tool.
Scope
Six fronts that usually appear in serious proposals.
How AIs describe the company today, if at all, and which competitors and sources they cite.
The questions customers ask before buying, organized by stage and service.
Answers up front, tables, clear definitions and FAQs, without fluff.
Organization, service and person schema, with consistent information everywhere.
Reviewing robots.txt so AI search bots aren't blocked by accident, and llms.txt when it makes sense.
Mentions in directories, press, partners and profiles that AIs use as sources.
Comparison
Same base, complementary goals.
| Criterion | Traditional SEO | GEO / AEO |
|---|---|---|
| Goal | Position in search results | Mention or citation in AI answers |
| Unit of work | Keyword and page | Question, entity and source |
| Helpful format | Complete, useful page | Direct answer, table and clear definition |
| How to measure | Position, clicks and conversions | Monitored questions, mentions and AI traffic |
| Dependency | Works on its own | Depends on an SEO base |
The process
It starts by measuring, keeps improving the base and continues monitoring.
Questions from your market tested on the main AIs, recording what shows up today.
Crawling, speed, structured data and access for AI search bots.
Pages and answers for the questions that matter, written for people and readable by machines.
Brand consistency off-site and mentions in relevant sources.
Periodic repetition of the questions and plan adjustments based on what changed.
Who leads
Ramon Saium leads ArcWords' SEO and media strategy and decides what goes into each client's GEO plan. A qualified team handles content, structured data and monitoring under his direction.
You receive what was done, what was measured and what changed, with no citation promise and direct access to whoever decides.
Investment
It is a new market with no standard. Sources diverge a lot, and scope changes everything: how many questions are monitored, on how many AIs and how much content is produced.

Before hiring
For businesses serving a region, local SEO usually comes first.
Questions
GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) is the work of increasing the chance a brand is mentioned or cited in AI-generated answers, such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews. AEO (Answer Engine Optimization) is a similar name, focused on answering questions directly. In practice, both start from a good SEO base.
The market is new and ranges diverge. In Oct/2026 there were standalone audits from R$ 1,150 (Lucas Ferraz SEO) or R$ 2,000 (AI SEO Brasil), monthly plans from R$ 1,350 to R$ 5,400 (Lucas Ferraz SEO) and GEO integrated into SEO contracts at R$ 4,000 to R$ 15,000 per month (Netlinks). These are Brazilian market references, not ArcWords prices.
There is no guaranteed timeline. Technical and content adjustments can be picked up within weeks, but mentions in answers depend on authority built over months and change as models are updated. Be wary of promises to appear on ChatGPT within a few days.
No. Google says SEO practices still apply to AI Overviews and AI Mode, with no additional requirements. GEO is an extra layer: mapped questions, content that answers directly and off-site authority. Without SEO, there is no base.
No. Nobody controls what an AI model answers. The work increases the chance the company is found, understood and considered trustworthy. Anyone guaranteeing citations is promising what they can't deliver.
With a set of questions monitored across different AIs, recording when the brand appears, how it is described and which sources are cited. Traffic from AI tools can also be tracked in analytics.
